“Toyota Tacoma is still the odds-on favorite for a lot of shoppers,” according to Edmunds. “From its basic work-truck configuration to luxury-oriented or off-road variants, the Tacoma is simply one of the most well-rounded pickups on sale today. Improvements for the 2024 model, combined with historically strong resale prices, make this year’s Tacoma a better value proposition than ever.”

Motortrend took a close look at this best-seller and said, “Pickup trucks are famous for their Lego-like option sheets, and the new Toyota Tacoma is no exception: it boasts a full 32 different configurations when you mix and match its body styles, bed lengths, and engine choices. Throw in a wide range of trim levels, including the rugged TRD Off-Road and TRD Pro, and you’ve got a truck that can take care of business whether that means hauling and towing or bashing over dunes and boulders.”

Car and Driver is also a steady fan of this popular mid-size pickup, saying, “Its Toyota roots and trail-ready capabilities provide enviable cachet. While the Tacoma—also lovingly called the Taco—has a cult following among off-roaders, its downsized dimensions and renowned reliability have made it a popular alternative to larger trucks.”

Among the many updates you’ll love and a refreshed exterior with new grille designs, different wheel choices, revised taillights, and new LED headlights on specific trim levels. Inside, the Tacoma now offers a power-adjustable driver’s seat, bigger touchscreens with standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, optional camera systems to provide a 360-degree view around the truck or even underneath it to detect obstacles.

The Tacoma TRD Pro receives all the latest technology as well as retuned shocks, lighter wheels, and a new Army Green paint color.

Though the base model starts around $29,500, Car and Driver recommends the TRD Off-Road model, which starts at a bit over $39,000 and has standard four-wheel drive and other desirable features: “Apart from the paint and interior colors, we’d select the Premium package, which includes a leather interior with heated front seats, and dual-zone automatic climate control.”

Reviewing the TRD Off-Road Pro, which begins at a little more than $45,000, Car and Driver says, “We found its lifted suspension, beefy shock absorbers, and gnarly tires made it one of the best trucks for off-roading.”

Edmunds raves about the Toyota Tacoma’s “Rugged off-pavement capability, easily understood interior controls, composite truck bed with movable tie-down cleats and a power outlet, and a yop-level V6 that can be paired with a six-speed manual transmission.”

Says US News. “You should buy a Tacoma if you want a well-built and comfortable truck with solid off-road chops. While the Tacoma’s starting price is about average for the class, the base model is better equipped than the bare-bones base models of many rivals. Every Tacoma comes with a healthy list of driver assistance technology and cool infotainment features.”
