Not To Miss! The “Gluten-Free Treats” of the Rogue Valley

Vanessa’s Top 5 Gluten-Free Treats in the Valley

Gluten-free eating does not need to be a drag.

It can be fancy-free and fun too! When my friends with Celiac’s disease and gluten intolerance crave a snack that will not produce an allergy smack-down, there are places in the Rogue Valley to go. Here is what we get and where we get it in the Valley.

Macarons (French macaroons) – These mighty miniature powerhouses pack a lot of taste into a nibble-sized portion. Macs to the Max – a home bakery in Grants Pass- is my favorite with a variety of wondrous flavors. Their top-sellers being Lemon-Meringue, Chocolate Ganache, Chai tea, Lavender Honey, and Peanut Butter & Chocolate. Check them out at: https://www.macstothemaxbakery.com/.

Cheese – Vegan or regular, cheese makes those who fear wheat or gluten happy. It’s gooey and yummy and it finds other ways to be sticky. My favorite is Oregon Cheese Cave in Phoenix, Oregon which even has some outdoor seating. Find them on Facebook at: https://www.facebook.com/oregoncheesecave/.

They also have a gluten-free, organic and vegan waffle bowl where you can select your own toppings from an array of items one might never have imagined as a savory treat.

Bowls – What are bowls you ask? Check out North West Pine Apple’s menu at: https://northwestpineapple.com/pages/menu . All their treats are all-natural and gluten-free. “Acai protein” and “Bee Love” stand out for me as top-tier treats that provide sustenance and unique flavor.

Naan Bread – Yup. A wonderful Indian restaurant in Ashland, Taj Indian Cuisine, makes a gluten-free garlic version that is “scrumdillyicious” and worth waiting for if you order it in-house. Or you can choose to do their daily buffet with non-glutinous options. Check out all their gluten-free choices at: https://www.taj-indiancuisine.com/menu/ .

Chocolate – Not all chocolate is gluten-free. It depends upon whether they have added any extra ingredients like um…gluten.

Lillie Belle Farms (https://www.lilliebellefarms.com/) in Central Point has some bean-to-bar offerings made from Nicaraguan and Bolivian and other countries ‘cacao beans  that will make you forget you ever cared about gluten. They call them “Little Lillie’s,” for their size; not their flavor. Get two or three to go…
