Top Amenities To Look For In An Oregon Coast Hotel

By Nikki C

Tourism is one of the core industries that fuels the economy on the Oregon Coast. Thousands of people come out to the coast every summer for a beach vacation, during the spring to watch the annual gray whale migration, and even in the winter for king tide events.

The coast is lined with accommodations for all types of budgets, ranging from hotels and motels to upscale resorts, RV parks, bed and breakfasts, Airbnbs, and vacation home rentals. But with so many options to choose from, how do you pick just one place to stay for vacation?

As a local, we have some suggestions on what you should look for when booking your Oregon Coast accommodations.

Beach access & ocean view

Does the hotel have direct access to the beach, or will you need to drive to the nearest access point? Places such as Beachside Manor Hotel in Lincoln City have steps that will take you right out to the beach. However, some towns along the coast like Depoe Bay are situated along rocky cliffs above the sea, and a stretch of the Central Coast is set along tall sand dunes. There are dozens of beach access points as well as state parks along the length of the coast, so a sandy ocean beach is never typically too far away.

Another thing to consider is: will you have an ocean view? Depending on your budget and
preferences, you may like watching the sun setting over the water and waking up to watch the waves crashing. Or, you may decide that a partial or non-view room is worth saving the money if you can still walk down to the beach from your room in minutes.

On-site dining

Several hotels on the coast, especially the more upscale accommodations like The Seaside Oceanfront Inn in Cannon Beach, offer some sort of restaurant and/or bar on-site.

Although yes, they can be more expensive, often times the hotel will provide guests with
coupon to encourage them to patronize the restaurant during their stay. Many of our coastal restaurants offer fresh seafood options such as salmon, crab, and oysters that have been caught in local ocean waters.

Free breakfast & free parking

Something I always look for in a hotel, not just on the Oregon Coast, is free breakfast and
parking. So many places find ways to nickel and dime you on top of the nightly rate, but when they include a continental breakfast and free parking in the deal, it suddenly seems like a total money saver.

Nightly parking fees and going out for breakfast every day can add up fast, and they’re pretty much a necessity for every trip, so finding a place that offers both for free is an excellent way to stay under budget.

Fireplaces and hot tubs

Even if you’re visiting during spring and summer, the Oregon Coast can get chilly. The weather often changes throughout the day, and there is usually a cool sea breeze if not strong winds with pouring down rain.

Many places offer fireplaces as well as private hot tubs in rooms to keep you warm and
comfortable no matter what season you’re visiting. If you’re staying during the fall or winter when it is especially rainy, a toasty hot tub or fireplace (and ocean view from afar) is well worth the room upgrade.
