Your Personal Self-Care Reboot – Part 1!

Reboot Part 1 – Ask the Questions that Motivate you this summer

by Pamela Christy, certified Rogue Valley IIN Health and Wellness Coach

What makes you tick?

And have you noticed that MOTIVATION is EVERYTHING?

Motivation can dramatically change the way you feel about who you are, what you’re up to in life, and why. It addresses your deepest needs; it speaks to the essence of YOU, and what makes you tick.

Any time of year really, it’s good to think and look at what motivates and inspires you.

Perhaps you are feeling discouraged, anxious or overly self-critical. Why don’t we take a look at a couple of questions that will beckon to your dreams, and nurture them like the precious seeds they are, for the future that is calling you?

  1. First question. If you had to come up with a modest but still exciting personal goal to achieve before the end of the month, what would it be? Hint: it’s not something like “clean the oven” or “yard work”; it needs to be something you feel excited about and that will significantly further your personal, financial and/or physical development. Ideally, it is something that will simultaneously impact others in a positive way.
  2. Okay. Next question. What would you say is your really BIG dream/goal for the year ahead? This is something you feel a bit daunted by but very motivated to achieve. It resonates with your life purpose; it thrills you but also terrifies you. Think about it. It may take some time to flesh out unless your big idea has been percolating inside you for a long time.

On that note, I’d like to invite you to start journaling every day to get the creative, motivational juices flowing. Include a list of things and people you feel grateful for, every day. The gratitude section of your daily journaling might sound repetitive but that is totally fine. The important thing is to get into that mental space of feeling thankful for what is right in front of you.

Try to write at least three pages in your journal and try to do it early in the day if you can (thus the term “morning pages”). Be patient with the process and treat yourself as you would your best friend – with compassion and kindness.

And remember, there’s nothing you cannot achieve if you set your mind to it.
