What’s Happening…

Director of Hobbs & Shaw of the Fast & Furious bunch wanted Keanu Reeves.  There were rumors that Keanu would make an appearance in Hobbs & Shaw, but that didn’t happen. However, there were definitely discussions about it happening behind the scenes. Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, director David Leitch explained how that rumor came about and why Keanu Reeves didn’t end up having a role: “It all stemmed from the fact that we had talked to Keanu early on. It was even before where we ended up with this draft. I had been talking to Keanu periodically through the shooting of it all and looking for opportunities of where it could be. I also wanted to make sure that it was enough — a real promise for something legitimate in the future — and wasn’t just a stunt casting role. We started to populate the movie with all these other personalities, and I just didn’t really think that we needed it, although I would’ve loved it. We even talked in post, and I showed him a rough cut of the movie. Then, we had conversations about ‘is there something here?’ We came to the conclusion of ‘let’s put a pin in it.’ I’m all for finding opportunities, but I also didn’t want to force anything.”

Despite Melissa McCarthy and Tiffany Haddish on board as stars in the movie, The Kitchen, couldn’t overcome bad reviews. The film has a 20% score on Rotten Tomatoes and debuted with only $5.5 million in ticket sales over the weekend.

Lady Gaga announced Friday that she will use her charitable foundation to “fully fund” 162 classrooms in Dayton, Ohio; El Paso, Texas; and Gilroy, California, after three deadly mass shootings devastated the communities in recent weeks.

In a letter to the three cities shared on the performer’s Facebook page Friday afternoon, the singer wrote that her “heart goes out to those who were taken from us too soon and to their families, loved ones, and communities who are left to grieve.”

… The Grammy Award-winning singer went on to write that she has found “hope” in partnering with DonorsChoose.org, a nonprofit organization that collects donations for public school classroom projects, to “fully fund the classroom project needs in Dayton, El Paso, and Gilroy.”

… Her donation will help 14 classrooms in Dayton, 125 classrooms in El Paso, and 23 classrooms in Gilroy gain “access to the support they need to inspire their students to work together and bring their dreams to life.”

On Friday, the legendary Betty White saluted another national treasure — Smokey Bear — by voicing America’s most famous forest ranger in his 75th birthday PSA from the Ad Council. In the new 30-second PSA, the 97-year-old comedy icon gave tips on preventing wildfires while also giving a shout out to her “cute shirtless, dear friend.”

… Betty’s tidings came seven months after Smokey wished her a happy 97th on Instagram because he has “a profound respect for anyone who is older than me.”

… Stephen Colbert, Al Roker, and Jeff Foxworthy have also recently lent their voice to the Smokey Bear Wildfire Prevention campaign, which is the longest-running PSA campaign in US history.

Miley and Liam split up.  Well that didn’t last long. Liam Hemsworth and Miley Cyrus have separated. A spokewoman for the couple said, “They still remain dedicated parents to all of their animals they share while lovingly taking this time apart.” Cyrus and Hemsworth wed last December.

Aquaman” actor Jason Momoa joked that he can’t start shooting the sequel to Aquaman because he was “run over by a bulldozer” while protesting in Hawaii. The Hawaiian-born actor recently made the remark in an Instagram post about his protest to stop the $1.4 billion Thirty Meter Telescope project being constructed atop a volcano that locals consider sacred. Momoa said stopping the build “is 4x bigger” than ‘Aquaman 2’ and joked that “Jason got run over by a bulldozer trying to stop the desecration of his native land.”

… Momoa is under contract to shoot the Aquaman sequel, which will be out in December 2022.

The Walt Disney Co. is asking a maker of bulletproof backpack inserts featuring Disney princesses and Avengers characters to stop selling the items, saying the media company hadn’t authorized the use of the characters.

Disney said: “None of these products were authorized by Disney, and we are demanding that those behind this stop using our characters or our other intellectual property to promote sales of their merchandise.”

JENNIFER ANISTON PAYS OVER $200,000 A YEAR TO LOOK HER BEST _

How much does it take Jennifer Aniston, the perennial single to look wonderful?  About $200,000 a year.

When you’re a gossip columnist and you’ve run out of things to make up, here’s an easy story: pick a random celebrity’s name out of a hat, take a random guess at what they pay on self-care each year, and write it up! The latest of these stories is about Jennifer Aniston, and it’s guesstimated that she’s “pays over $200,000 a year to look her best.” This includes various beauty products, hair care, massages, yoga, fitness instruction, and more.

Universal Pictures has pulled the release of The Hunt, which was scheduled to come out September 27. In a statement on the movie’s website, the studio said that this is not “the right time” for the film to be released, especially considering the recent mass shootings in El Paso and Dayton.

… The Hunt is a spin on The Most Dangerous Game — aka the story where a rich guy hunts people for sport. All involved with the movie have called it a satire, but some on the right have taken it deadly seriously, despite having only seen a trailer.

Woodstock turns 50…but the revised edition isn’t happening as it was hoped. So, all we have is the history of the original music fest.  Thursday (August 15) marks the 50th anniversary of one of the watershed events of the turbulent decade of the 1960s — the days of “Peace, Love and Music” known as Woodstock. It was held at a rural dairy farm in Bethel, New York.

… A crowd of up to 200,000 was expected to hear 32 of the top musicians of the time, but estimates of the actual attendance ranged up to a half-million. The size of the crowd created massive traffic jams, and far outstripped the food and sanitation facilities on hand.

… However, the event was marked by social harmony and is widely considered a watershed in popular music history.

The Tonight Show will air on five Sundays after some NFL games.

Jimmy Fallon’s work week is about to get a little longer. NBC announced Thursday that The Tonight Show will air five Sunday episodes this fall, following broadcasts of Sunday Night Football. The Sunday shows will kick off on September 8, following a match-up of the Pittsburgh Steelers and New England Patriots. Fallon’s first Sunday guests will include Jamie Foxx, Kelly Clarkson and Michael B. Jordan.

There’s always a lawsuit to stage centerstage.  In Las Vegas, entertainer Wayne Newton is being sued by a Vegas woman who claims the veteran singer’s pet monkey bit and injured her daughter during an invited visit to Newton’s mansion nearly two years ago.  Jocelyne Urena seeks at least $15,000 in damages on behalf of her daughter, Genevieve, in a civil negligence complaint filed this week. Genevieve, then 15, received emergency hospital treatment for a bite to her right wrist from a capuchin monkey named Boo. The lawsuit alleges the monkey attacked the girl without provocation during a tour of Newton’s former estate, Casa de Shenandoah. Genevieve underwent follow-up medical treatment, counseling, and bears a scar from the bite.

Speaking of lawsuits, a New York City judge has rejected actor Cuba Gooding Jr.’s request to have his groping case thrown out. A criminal complaint filed by prosecutors in Manhattan has accused Gooding of placing his hand on a 29-year-old woman’s breast and squeezing it without her consent at Magic Hour Rooftop Bar & Lounge near Times Square on June 9. The woman told police she believed Gooding was intoxicated. The 51-year-old Gooding was arrested four days later after turning himself in to police. He pleaded not guilty to forcible touching and sexual abuse charges and was released on his own recognizance after about six hours in police custody.

… The defense had filed papers saying the misdemeanor forcible touching case should be dismissed based on accounts of two witnesses who say it never happened, and that video from the bar backs up that claim.

Should Cindy Crawford keep the pics coming of her in a bikini at 53 years old?  The one gorgeous supermodel of her heyday, and mostly ageless superstar isn’t immune to online critiques. The 53-year-old modeling legend recently posted a photo of her standing on a dock by a lake in a red bikini, but not everyone was a fan of the pic. While most followers praised the mom of two for her still-incredible body, some did not approve. Several commenters wrote that, at age 53, Crawford is too “old” to flaunt her body in a bikini. One commenter wrote: “Getting a little old for this…” Another said, “I don’t think you are living in reality. Men do not foam at the mouth at 55-year-old women. Trust me.” Others called out Crawford for making other women feel bad.
