ESCAPING THE NXIVM CULT: A MOTHER’S FIGHT TO SAVE HER DAUGHTER (8p ET, Lifetime) — Peter Facinelli costars in this ripped from the headlines, fact-based TV movie.

DRUNK PARENTS (8p ET, Starz) — Salma Hayek and Alec Baldwin star in this 2019 comedy as a couple of suburbanites trying to hide their financial problems.

The 71st ANNUAL PRIMETIME EMMY AWARDS (8p ET, FOX)
There will be no host this year. HBO’s Game of Thrones set a new benchmark with 32 total nominations, the most for any program in a single season (beating NYPD Blue‘s previous mark). Grammy-nominated singer/songwriter Halsey will perform a tribute during this year’s “In Memoriam” with an acoustic performance on the piano. Actor/comedian ThomasLennon will provide off-camera commentary for audiences at home while every Emmy winner walks to the stage. And Adam Devine will introduce the variety genre with a special “whimsical” performance.

SARAH HYLAND THANKS BROTHER FOR GIVING HER A KIDNEY 

Sarah Hyland is celebrating another two years of life thanks to her brother Ian Hyland. In a heartfelt Instagram post, the Modern Family star shared: “2 years ago my precious little brother gave me the gift of life. Thank you for not only giving me your [blanking] kidney but for everything else you do … happy Kidneyversary!”

… The actress shared that she had some hesitations about receiving a kidney from her brother, especially since the last transplant from her father was unsuccessful.

MAYIM BIALIK TO OPEN A CAT CAFÉ IN NEW SHOW

Mayim Bialik has found her first post-Big Bang Theory TV gig. The actress is teaming up with Jim Parsons to executive produce a new series potentially for Fox called Carla. Bialik will star in the series, which is based on a UK series called Miranda. The show is about Carla, a 39 year-old woman who spent the money her parents set aside for her wedding to open a cat café in Louisville, Kentucky.

JUDGE ALLOWS MICHAEL JACKSON ESTATE TO GO FORWARD WITH $100 MILLION LAWSUIT AGAINST HBO

A judge’s tentative ruling Thursday will allow Michael Jackson’s estate to continue its $100 million lawsuit against HBO for airing the documentary Leaving Neverland. The Jackson estate filed the lawsuit against HBO in February on the grounds that the documentary violated the terms of a non-disparagement clause of a 1992 agreement that granted HBO the right to air video from his Dangerous tour.

… HBO filed a motion in August asking that the estate’s lawsuit be dismissed, citing the First Amendment. The documentary details accusations by Wade Robson and James Safechuck that Jackson sexually abused them when they were children.

WILL ARNETT WILL STAR IN MONSTER WRESTLING MOVIE 

Paramount is teaming up with WWE Studios to develop the animated comedy film Rumble, which is set to star Will Arnett, Terry Crews, and WWE wrestlers Becky Lynch and Roman Reigns.

… The movie is set in a world where monster wrestling is a global sport and monsters are superstar athletes.

MORE THAN 10 BREAKING BAD CHARACTERS WILL APPEAR IN EL CAMINO

Sitting down for a major in-depth interview for the first time since El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie was announced, series creator Vince Gilligan divulged tons of interesting tidbits about the upcoming Breaking Bad sequel, most notably that “more than 10” characters from the legendary series will be appearing in the film.

Given that the final season of Breaking Bad wiped major players off the board, the selection of characters who could feature in El Camino is certainly relatively limited.

… El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie will hit Netflix on Friday, October 11.

NIGHT MONKEY TRAILER 

In Spider-Man: Far from Home, Peter Parker is pressed into superhero service — but doesn’t have his usual Spider-Man costume. So he goes with an all-black outfit and is haphazardly named Night Monkey. With Far from Home now available for home viewing, Sony decided to use Night Monkey to help promote the film. • VIDEO

RAISING DION IS ABOUT A SMALL BOY WITH SUPERHERO-LIKE ABILITIES 

Netflix has released a trailer for Raising Dion, a new series about a young boy struggling to control his new superhero-like powers. As his single mother tries to keep her son safe she battles conspiracies, mysteries and the government. Raising Dion launches October 4 on Netflix. • TRAILER

HBO MAX WILL REVIVE THE BOONDOCKS FOR A TWO-SEASON RUN 

HBO Max is bringing back the animated series The Boondocks for two more seasons next year. The 24 planned episodes, along with the previous 55, will be available on the streaming service in fall 2020.

COMCAST’S XFINITY FLEX IS NOW FREE FOR INTERNET-ONLY CUSTOMERS 

Comcast announced Wednesday that it’s making Xfinity Flex free for internet-only customers. The streaming platform now provides access to more than 10,000 free movies and shows. Comcast unveiled Xfinity Flex in March, charging $5 a month for a 4K HDR streaming box, voice remote and a digital interface. These are now being provided for free to those on Xfinity internet-only subscriptions.

… Xfinity Flex aggregates streaming options across Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, YouTube, Amazon Music, Pandora, Showtime and HBO, along with content you can rent or buy, and free ad-supported shows. Comcast said it will soon add Hulu and NBC Universal’s recently announced Peacock.

RALPH LAUREN DEBUTS FRIENDS-THEMED COLLECTION

Designer Ralph Lauren is paying tribute to his most famous fictional employee, Rachel Green, with a Friends-inspired collection that’s launching in honor of the sitcom’s 25th anniversary. Rachel Green, who was played by Jennifer Aniston, was known for being a fashionista and an avid trendsetter for many of the ’90s styles, so the collection, which is fittingly titled “The One Where They Wear Ralph Lauren,” is appropriate. The collection includes preppy princess styles like cashmere turtlenecks, structured leather blazers, and pleated miniskirts.

ELTON JOHN ADDS U.S. SHOWS TO FAREWELL TOUR 

Elton John is adding more U.S. shows to his farewell tour. The 72-year-old British singer announced in a tweet that he will perform seven shows in New York and New Jersey in April as part of his Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour.

GET PAID $1300 TO WATCH 13 STEPHEN KING MOVIES BEFORE HALLOWEEN 

Like scary movies? Dish might have the perfect job for you. The company is looking to hire someone to watch 13 movies based on Stephen King novels before Halloween. The salary is $1300.

DOWNTON ABBEY OPENS ITS DOORS WITH AIRBNB LISTING 

Two Downton Abbey fans will soon get the chance to live like a Crawley for a night when Highclere Castle, the main filming location for the Emmy Award-winning drama, lists on Airbnb. As a promotion for the film Downton Abbey, the estate in Hampshire, England, is opening its doors to two guests for a one-night stay on November 26. • LINK

… George Herbert, the 8th Earl of Carnavon, and his wife, Countess Fiona, live at the castle when it is not open to the public. They will invite the guests for cocktails in the saloon, followed by dinner in the state dining room, where they will be served by the castle’s butler. Then they’ll receive coffee in the library before retiring to a bedroom with views of the rolling hills.

… In the morning, the guests will receive a private tour of the castle grounds, which include gardens of roses and lavender, along with beech and oak woodlands.

CREEPY FACEBOOK DEVICE WILL WATCH YOU WHILE YOU WATCH TV

Facebook will launch an all-new Portal device in time for the holidays — the company’s first step into the hot video streaming device market. Currently the big streaming device companies are Roku, Amazon, and Apple.

… The new Portal video streaming device will have a camera and integrated far-field microphones, so it’s capable of watching and listening to people as they watch TV in their living rooms. The video camera and microphones will be on the device in order to make it capable of video conferencing features like current Portal devices. There are also rumors the device will allow Facebook friends to have remote viewing parties, so two people can watch a show together from two different houses.

Matthew Broderick played one of the most famous high school students in movie history in the John Hughes classic Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, and then returned to campus as a teacher years later in the political satire Election.
